§1 Areas

Six areas of work.

Areas of expertise
No.Page
01Nuclear training and teachingPhysics since 1993, and radiation and reactor physics since 2005, taught to undergraduates, officer cadets and secondary-school students, by a physicist who built full-core CANDU models at the Royal Military College of Canada.
02Radiation safetyRadiation Safety Officer and Transport of Dangerous Goods Officer training, reactor-operator training, a detector background going back to the 1990s, and radiation courses taught since 2005.
03Monte Carlo reactor and radiation analysisThree-dimensional reactor and radiation-transport models in MCNP and Serpent, built at full-core scale on parallel computing clusters.
04Independent verification of reactor modelsCode-to-code verification and validation of reactor-physics models: MCNP against Serpent, both against WIMS-AECL and UWB1, and theory against simulation.
05Advanced fuels and fuel cyclesReactor-physics studies of uranium nitride in CANDU, thorium-based fuel for small modular reactors, and burning weapons-grade uranium and plutonium in a coupled fast-thermal core.
06Nuclear project and risk managementA Master of Engineering Management built on nuclear regulation, risk analysis, quality control and operations research, and a full seismic risk study of a major dam.
